Frequently Asked Questions

I purchased a print online, when can I expect it?

Shipment of your new painting may take up to three or four weeks. Before shipping your giclée print, it must first be created and framed.

All fine art giclée prints are unframed unless otherwise noted. Sizes are image sizes. Editions are limited to 70 signed and numbered reproductions. They are professionally created, using state-of-the-art, museum quality equipment.

Watercolor paintings are reproduced on watercolor paper with an additional white border. Acrylic and oil paintings are reproduced on canvas, mounted to the image size, and varnished with UV resistant varnish for durability and color saturation.

What is a giclée?

Giclée (pronounced jhee-clay) refers to a method of creating limited edition prints. The French word “Giclee” means “to spray ink.”

How is a Giclée reproduction made?

Original artwork is photographed either by a large format film camera and scanned, or photographed with a large format digital camera or scanning back. The resulting files are stored in the computer, then output to a high-resolution wide format inkjet printer.

How good is a Giclée reproduction?

Using a museum quality digital copystand, giclées show every subtlety and nuance of the original – giclée prints are often indistinguishable from the original work of art. Giclée prints have become accepted by the art community for their exceptional detail, archival qualities, and reasonable cost.

What kind of paper and ink do you use?

For reproductions of watercolors, watercolor paper is used. Canvas is used for the oil reproductions. Brenda personally stretches each giclée reproduction onto stretcher bars and varnishes them just like the originals. With this protective varnish, these canvas reproductions do not have to be framed under glass. Brenda’s reproductions are usually the same size as her original painting. Archival pigment inks are used for all prints.

Why buy a giclée?

For various reasons, collectors who want to own an original painting sometimes can’t. The original painting may already be sold or the cost of an original exceeds their budget. Giclée prints are less expensive to purchase. Each edition is strictly limited to no more than 70. Each giclée print comes with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, personally signed by the artist.

Brenda’s giclées are produced by Archival Arts.
